For the Devil&#8217;s Slide Trail, which we took, permits are limited in the summer and on weekends, so must be obtained in person.  As we were hiking on a fall weekday, we were able to get the required day-use wilderness trail permit by scanning a QR code at the Idyllwild Ranger Station.  An Adventure Pass is also required for parking.  The trail is easy to follow, with good footing, a lovely walk through pine trees, and nice views.
