Dana. The Trailhead to Gaylor starts just inside the park entrance so you can drive up to but not in the park if you want. If you don’t have a pass, this can save you some $$$ and time waiting in line to get in if you start after “timed entry”. Go early and just park in the lot at the gate entrance. There are great views of the entire area! It’s a short hike of one mile up, but has 1,000 feet of gain so you will feel it. You’ll start at 10,000 feet so if you are bringing blood that is calibrated to sea level, it’s going to be a good blow.

The Hike:
The hike is very pretty and the views just get better and better as you approach the top of Gaylor. I setup on the very top, out on the end of the ridge where very few visitors go. The top is a bit of a knife edge, 6 to 10 feet wide, which makes it pretty effing epic. Itt’s not really dangerous and your antenna will love it.

I made plenty of contacts and had a blast hiking with Charlie (NJ7V), and Javier (K6TNT)

I highly recommend this summit, so don’t leave without checking this off your list. I can’t wait to get back to it.
– The Ham Ninja – N1CLC

[4

post-741","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-tripreports
["GET
