{"id":804,"date":"2025-08-14T05:28:37","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T05:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inventwave.com\/w6test\/?p=804"},"modified":"2025-08-14T05:28:37","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T05:28:37","slug":"w6-nd-012-bald-mountain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/w6sota.org\/web\/2025\/08\/14\/w6-nd-012-bald-mountain\/","title":{"rendered":"W6\/ND-012 Bald Mountain"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Summer Bonus: 3 Pts June 15 &#8211; September 15<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other summits in the area: W6\/SN-033 Mammoth Mountain, W6\/ND-037 Lookout Mountain, W6\/ND-392 Dry Creek Knoll, W6\/ND-029 Banner Ridge, W6\/ND-393 8185 (Benton Crag), W6\/ND-026 Gilbert Peak, W6\/ND-041 8126, W6\/ND-047 Casa Diablo<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturday, July 26, 2025.\u00a0 We parked a mile from the summit, at 37.79277, -118.89836.\u00a0 We could have driven the entire way, but other activation reports said the road was not passable.\u00a0\u00a0 We were happy we stopped when we did, as the last mile had a tall ridge in the center of the road.\u00a0  We saw a few motorcycles and ATVs (&#8220;side-by-sides&#8221;) drive to the summit, and the volunteer here drove a 4Runner to the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the summit there is a lookout tower, first noted on a 1935 Inyo National Forest map.&nbsp; The top was a small 10&#215;10 ft room, the bottom a residence with propane fridge and stove. The lookout tower is manned by volunteers, traveling from elsewhere to spend a few days here.&nbsp; Robert, a retired Forest Service fireman, had arrived on Thursday and was to hand over the shift to the next volunteers in a few hours.&nbsp; We enjoyed talking to him for probably an hour.&nbsp; He lives in Sierra Madre and described how the Eaton Fire came within 9 ft of his house. Since he was a former fireman, he had several fire units parked at his house during this event.&nbsp; He talked about emergency preparedness, including leaving the lights on during a fire. Fireman will go to the house with the lights on first, so they can see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bishop repeaters can be used to stir up 2m\/FM contacts on 146.52 MHz (see listing
