Using Our Site
Information about using and contributing to this site.

We want our members to be able to submit "Trip Reports" and collaborate with us as we build a site that is representative of W6 and all our members.

We think that one of the most valuable areas might be "Trip Reports".  We invite you to create an account and create a trip report.  Currently, they are set for review prior to publish, but we hope to change that.  Contact W6WebAdmin@w6sota.org if you need help.

Registering & Login

  1. Click on "Login" in the upper right.
  2. If you don't have an account, click on the register form.
  3. Once your account is approved, you will receive an email and you can log in to begin contributing.

Adding a Trip Report

Trip reports are meant for W6 region only.
(Go HERE to understand why you should create a Trip Report)
You must be logged in to create or edit a trip report.

  1. To add a Trip Report, hover over Trip Reports and choose "Create New".

  2. The Title MUST be in the format of [Summit ID] and [Summit Name (if it has one]
    Example: "W6/CT-109 Jobs Peak"
Title is the one thing that the site editors will change if needed.

  3. You will see a small set of fields pop-up at the bottom.  Please fill that out as best you can.

  4. Once you've entered the summit metadata, you can place rich text into the trip report.

  5. When you are ready, press the "Publish" button in the upper right. You'll need to press it again just to confirm. If you are not sure, the first press leaves it in draft mode and you can come back later to finish it.
Authors can edit only their posts. If you find an issue with another post or page, let the w6webadmin@w6sota.org know.

We will have a list of site editors who can be contacted if a change need to be made to a post you don't own.

Note: If you are in the "Editor" group, you'll need to remember to change the "Category" (found on the right side of the page creation window) and set it to "Trip Reports", otherwise it won't show up on the page.

Let us know if you have any issues.

Tips on Searching Trip Reports

The Trip Reports main page has a search box at the top left that searches all content and summit metadata.  There is no button because searches are initiated as you type.  Also, you can change the order of the results by clicking on the column header.

Below are some tips on searching:

  • Search for all summits in a particular area:  Just enter the area name.

Ex: “ San Diego” or “Ventura”

  • Search for a driveup summit in San Diego:

Ex: “Diego driveup”

  • Search for summits in the Los Angeles area over 4 points:

Ex: “Los Angeles” then click on the Points column to order by points
