We are excited to announce that today we are releasing the new W6 SOTA Association site for general use. W6SOTA.org
Why it matters
We wanted to create a more up to date website where W6 Activators and Chasers can get the latest news about what’s happening in W6, find out about upcoming events, and share information about summits that you have activated.
Key features
Our new platform is built on a modern publishing platform with a theme that matches the spirit of SOTA. Our site is built to scale and change as our needs do. What you see today is just the start.
Some of the key features:
New modern home page gives you a quick overview of what’s going on.
News - You’ll find the latest W6 SOTA and related news.
Spotlight articles on people, places, accomplishments, and more.
Event announcements on upcoming events in W6 land.
Resources for Activators and chasers, like how to get started, CW, Safety, and more.
Trip Reports with search giving you quick access to information about a destination you may be visiting but are unsure where to start as well as a place for visitors to start their research. We have over 93 trip reports so far and more coming.
More on Trip Reports
Trip reports is a place where you can be a real part of w6sota.org. By sharing information about the route, trail conditions and other info on activations, you’ve completed in W6, it makes it easier for others thinking about attempting the same summit. It also supports visitors to the area that are trying to figure out what summit to hit while they are in the area.
This repository is only as good as WE make it.
Once you register and receive your login approval, you’ll be able to publish your own trip reports.
Search it to quickly get information about a summit you are interested in.
If you are visiting an area you are unfamiliar with, you can filter for summits that fit your mission? For example, you can search for a particular area, like Yosemite, San Diego, and more.
Want to know summits are a drive up summit in the Inland Empire??? Just put “inland driveup” in the search dialog and get the answer.
Anyone can create a “Trip Report” on a W6 summit they completed, including pictures and gpx files.
See Using Our Site to learn more about how to contribute.
More to Come!
We aren’t done! We welcome your ideas on how to improve and expand the W6 site to deliver the most value.
Call to Action!!!
Contribute: Login, and contribute. You’ll find the registration link on the login page if you don’t have an account yet.
Create a "Trip Report”: After you login, create a “Trip Report” for for summits you have first hand information on. See “Using Our Site” located in the resources menu to learn more.
Help us test: If you find an issue, send feedback to Feedback@w6sota.org
Volunteer to become part of our editorial board: We need help creating News, Events and other content, as well as driving drive the direction of the site.
Share the news! Let other SOTA operators know about the site. If a SOTA visitor comes to town, we hope they can use the tool to get more information about W6 summits in the area.
