I followed Bob Burd’s route linked from peakbagger.com. Thank you Bob! I would also recommend reading Bob‘s description of this route as he is generally more thorough than I am.

Parked off Highway 395 across from where the route starts. The first quarter mile of the route is up a fairly steep but easily climbable slope. Once to the top of the slope, it’s a steady uphill climb Finding your way through the trees and brush. I wouldn’t call it a bush whack but definitely looking for a clear path eventually, you’ll come to a small meadow. Across the meadow and go behind the ridge that you see in front of you here again you will try and avoid the thick mountain mahogany. Eventually, up the gully that you’ve been heading up, you will see the summit. The true summit it’s a little bit of a scramble, but easy to get up. All I found on the summit was a little register can that Bob Bird must’ve left behind with nothing in it.

I set up to the southwest across a very shallow saddle, and a much more comfortable area, but still within the activation zone. I made 13 contacts all on 7m SSB and 2 summit to summits. I wanted to operate CW but the cable I brought with me did not work with my key!

I followed Bob’s advice on the return route directly down the canyon to the old road and followed the old road all the way out to the highway. Near the end, the road does pass through private property, but the gate was open and there were no “No Trespassing” signs. It did appear the residence was occupied as I went by, but I was not contacted by anyone.

Great weather, great hike, I recommend this for anyone that likes off trail cross country activations.
