The initial approach fix is across from Lawrence Welk resort, is paved and there is a large glass filled parking area.
This is a deceiving route on the map. The map shows a road to the top but in some places, I'm not sure what could crawl up. There is a lot of very steep uphill pitches and then you loose all that elevation gain so you can do it again. According to my watch, the elevation rain for the round trip is ~1,200 feet so that is what I am going to record for this one. There is a lot of up and down on this one.
In the end, navigation is fairly strait forward. Excelent VHF into San Diego. If I can find my pictures, I'll post them here. Route is attached.
