March 24, 2026. I was surprised this summit had not yet been activated. Easy access to the trailhead along paved Gold Run Road just a few miles west of Susanville. There is a sign at the beginning of the trail (dirt road) that reads "Right to pass by permission and subject to control of owner" There is a gate to prevent vehicle access but no fencing around the gate. The start of the route is owned by WM Beaty and Assoc who permit hiking on their properties. The summit and property crossed near the summit is BLM. The route I took is about two miles, the first mile on a dirt road the last mile open country. My route passes a fairly interesting cave as denoted by the slight detour approaching the first knob along the ridge. Track here. Nearby is some chicken wire and a  burned 1 inch fire hose. 450ft is gained before you leave the road a little under a mile in. The remaining mile of open country is about 900ft of gain. It took me just over an hour and a half to make the summit.

Plenty of room and rocks to set up on the summit. Great views all around. If it is hot there are some nice pines down slope on the NE side likely within the activation zone.  Radio conditions were a little rough for me. Total of 12 contacts on 40 and 20m CW. Tried SSB but no luck. Even tried to raise local folks on 2m but no luck there either.
