This is an almost drive-up since you can park about .5 mi from the summit.
You start from the road from Hennessy Pass Road (H07) using "Lake of the woods road". You'll pass a beautiful little lake back here and there is, according to Jeff, one of the most beautiful camp sites in the area. The road is accessible via 2wd capable using minimal clearance but you might have to nav around some rocks, and one bad dip.
When you come to the intersection that would take you up to the summit, I suggest you park there (39.50583, -120.38906). The road to the summit requires AWD with medium clearance but you really won't get that far. Even with the best overlanding rig, you'll still have a very easy hike of a 1/4 mile. Margaret made it up about .3 mi before I parked. If you walk from the parking area, it's probably less than a mile to the summit via an easy hike up the road.
The AZ has some awesome views and is large enough for several hams to setup stations and have a great time.
All driving referenced for this trip was done with Margaret, my Subaru OBW.
Road conditions can change after winter snow melt and heavy rains so be warned.
