September 10, 2025. Slide Mountain is a pleasant hike. It's divided up into three parts, 1.65 miles of almost level paved road along the Old Golden State Highway, 2.4 miles along an old dirt road with 1650 feet of gain, and the final 2.4 miles with 760 feet of gain on a good trail to the summit. The summit has a well maintained lookout staffed by volunteers. It was unstaffed when I was there. I used the lookout to hold my mast to get my 20 and 40m wires way up in the air. Good views of the Sespe Wilderness in the Los Padres, the still unactivated Cobblestone Peak, and several seldom activated other peaks near by. GPX can be found here from my hike in 2016. This is in the extreme east of the Los Padres NF on the boarder with the Angeles NF.
