Saturday, July 26, 2025.  After driving 3.6 mi on a dirt road we parked at 37.69412, -118.90906.  From here it was a 0.5 mi cross-country hike to peak.  The last bit was tricky – steep and very loose sand.  The summit was a ridge of rocks adjacent to a large flat pad. Hidden here is a plaque honoring Charles "Gil" Gilbert, who the summit is named for. He was a professor of Geology at UC Berkeley and in the 1930's mapped the area and proposed its source of formation. The Bishop repeaters can be used to stir up 2m/FM contacts on 146.52 MHz. (See Repeater frequency listing, below.)
