In 2024 and 2025 we did this hike off of the Hwy 2 trailhead. Parking was at Islip Saddle. From here you could take the trailhead to either Mount Islip to the southeast, or Mount Williamson to the northwest. Route is on the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail); it is fun to encounter and chat with these through-hikers in the spring.

As of December 2025 Hwy 2 is now closed before you get to Islip Saddle. Instead we took the trail that leaves from Crystal Lake campground. The route was nice, but a longer drive for us.
